Umrah from Lahore in 2026: Flights, Packages, and Logistics

Last updated: 26 June 2026

Lahore-based pilgrims have one of the best Umrah connectivity options in the country. Five airlines operate direct flights from Allama Iqbal International Airport to Saudi Arabia, and the airport itself has dedicated Umrah pilgrim infrastructure including a Hajj/Umrah terminal lounge and Ihram changing facilities. Here's a practical 2026 guide.

Direct flights from Lahore (LHE)

To Madinah (MED)

  • PIA (PK): 4–5 weekly flights, ~5 hour journey, typically PKR 145,000–180,000 round trip in non-peak months
  • Saudia (SV): Daily flights, ~4.5 hour journey, slightly higher fare
  • Air Sial (PF): 3–4 weekly flights, often the cheapest option (PKR 130,000–165,000)

To Jeddah (JED)

  • PIA (PK): Daily flights
  • Saudia (SV): Daily flights
  • Air Sial (PF): 4–5 weekly
  • FlyJinnah (9P): 2–3 weekly, often cheapest budget option

Madinah-first vs Jeddah-first — which is better?

The Pakistani tradition is to fly into Madinah first, spend 3–5 days at Masjid al-Nabawi, then drive 4.5 hours to Makkah for Umrah. The pilgrim enters Ihram at the Miqat of Dhu'l-Hulayfah (Bir Ali) just outside Madinah.

Advantages of Madinah-first:

  • Easier on the body — start with cooler, calmer Madinah, build up to intense Makkah
  • Pakistani groups often start with collective Asr at Masjid al-Nabawi to set the mood
  • You enter Ihram at a proper Miqat station rather than mid-flight

Advantages of Jeddah-first (Makkah then Madinah):

  • You begin in the state of Ihram and complete Umrah within hours of landing — spiritually intense
  • You can then unwind in Madinah after the demanding rites
  • Flights to Jeddah are slightly cheaper

Most Pakistani Umrah packages from Lahore default to Madinah-first. Discuss the option with your agent based on what suits your family.

Lahore Airport (LHE) tips for Umrah travellers

  • Allama Iqbal International has a dedicated Hajj/Umrah pilgrim lounge in the international departure area — confirm with airline if you have access
  • Ihram changing rooms are available at the airport; many pilgrims change into Ihram here before security
  • Baggage allowance on Lahore–Saudi flights is 30 kg Economy + 7 kg cabin (Saudia, PIA, Air Sial all match)
  • Customs at Lahore rarely flags Umrah pilgrim luggage but will check for forbidden items on return (e.g. ZamZam in personal bags — illegal; use the airline's free 5L allowance instead)
  • Currency exchange at LHE is significantly more expensive than the market rate — exchange in Anarkali or DHA before going to the airport

Pre-departure checklist specific to Lahore pilgrims

  1. Visit any government EPI centre for the mandatory polio booster (free, valid 28 days to 12 months before travel)
  2. Get meningococcal ACWY vaccination at a private hospital (PKR 4,000–6,000 at Doctors Hospital, Hameed Latif, Aga Khan)
  3. Verify your passport has at least 6 months validity from departure date — renew at NADRA Mall Road if needed
  4. If using a private agent, confirm they are MoRA-licensed (verify on the Ministry of Religious Affairs website)
  5. For currency, withdraw PKR for petty cash but exchange to SAR at a reputable dealer (Pace Mall, Mall Road Anarkali) — never at the airport

Driving to Lahore from other Punjab cities

Many of our pilgrims drive in from Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Sahiwal. Allama Iqbal Airport has paid parking (PKR 300/day in the long-stay lot), and the Motorway M2 makes the journey from anywhere in Punjab manageable. We recommend arriving 4 hours before international departure during Umrah season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which airline is cheapest for Umrah from Lahore?

Air Sial and FlyJinnah are typically the cheapest, often PKR 15,000–30,000 below PIA and Saudia for the same route. They serve Jeddah more reliably than Madinah. PIA and Saudia tend to be 10–20% more expensive but include more generous baggage and better connections in case of disruption.

How long is the drive from Madinah to Makkah?

Approximately 420 km, 4.5–5 hours by bus. Most Pakistani Umrah packages organise a daytime departure with a meal stop at Bir Ali Miqat or Badr. Some packages now use the Haramain High-Speed Rail (2 hours, around SAR 250 one-way), though this is usually an extra-cost upgrade.

Is there an airport in Makkah?

No. The nearest international airport to Makkah is Jeddah (JED), approximately 85 km away. From Jeddah Airport, ground transport to Makkah is around 1 hour by bus or car. Many Pakistani agents arrange direct hotel pick-up at Jeddah's dedicated Hajj/Umrah terminal.

Can I fly Lahore → Madinah → Makkah → Lahore on the same ticket?

Yes. The standard Pakistani Umrah itinerary is Lahore → Madinah, then driving to Makkah, then Jeddah → Lahore on return. Both PIA and Saudia book this 'multi-city' fare as a single ticket. Air Sial and FlyJinnah generally require two one-way bookings.

What's the best Umrah departure time of day from Lahore?

Late-night departures (post-midnight) from LHE are most common because they arrive in Saudi Arabia in the early morning, letting you check into your hotel by 10–11 AM Saudi time and rest before Maghrib. Daytime flights from LHE arrive in Saudi evening — you'll likely sleep first and start Umrah the next day.
