Umrah from Karachi in 2026: Flights, Costs, and What to Expect at JIAP

Karachi has been a major Umrah departure city for over 70 years. Jinnah International Airport (JIAP / KHI) was the first Pakistani airport with dedicated Hajj terminal infrastructure, and today operates more weekly flights to Saudi Arabia than any other Pakistani city. This guide is for pilgrims based in Karachi and the wider Sindh region (Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Larkana).

Direct flights from Karachi (KHI)

To Madinah (MED)

  • PIA (PK): Daily flights, ~4.5 hour journey, PKR 145,000–185,000 round trip in non-peak months
  • Saudia (SV): Daily flights, slightly higher fare, generous baggage
  • Air Sial (PF): 3–4 weekly, cheapest option (PKR 125,000–160,000)
  • SereneAir (ER): 2 weekly flights, mid-tier

To Jeddah (JED)

  • PIA (PK): Daily flights, sometimes 2 per day in peak season
  • Saudia (SV): Daily flights
  • Air Sial (PF): 4–5 weekly
  • FlyJinnah (9P): 3–4 weekly, often the cheapest budget fare from KHI
  • Emirates / Etihad / Qatar via Dubai / Abu Dhabi / Doha: Convenient for longer Umrah + Gulf stopover trips, slightly higher fare

JIAP Hajj/Umrah Terminal — what to expect

Karachi has a dedicated Hajj/Umrah pilgrim terminal that operates during the Hajj and main Umrah seasons. It includes:

  • Separate check-in counters for Umrah pilgrims (reducing wait times)
  • Prayer halls and Wudu facilities
  • Ihram changing rooms
  • Briefing rooms used by Pakistani Mu'allim representatives
  • Free Pakistani breakfast service for some package pilgrims

Outside Hajj season, Umrah pilgrims use the standard international departure terminal. Allow 4 hours pre-departure during peak Umrah months.

Karachi Umrah package pricing (2026)

TierPer Person PKR
Economy 14-day (3-star, 500m+)235,000 – 285,000
Standard 14-day (4-star, 200–400m)335,000 – 405,000
Premium 14-day (5-star, within 200m)510,000 – 740,000

Karachi packages are typically PKR 5,000–10,000 cheaper than the equivalent Lahore package due to higher flight volume and competition. Ramadan and December packages can be 60–100% above these rates.

Pre-departure logistics specific to Karachi

  • Polio booster: Available free at any EPI centre. Major centres include Civil Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad.
  • Meningococcal vaccine: Available at Aga Khan University Hospital, Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, South City Hospital, and most private hospitals (PKR 4,000–6,500).
  • Yellow fever vaccination: Not required for Saudi Arabia from Pakistan, but if you've recently visited a yellow-fever country (sub-Saharan Africa, Brazil), you'll need proof.
  • Currency exchange: Mahmoodabad, Saddar, and Tariq Road have the most competitive SAR rates. Avoid airport exchanges.
  • Group leader meetings: Most reputable Karachi Umrah operators hold pre-departure briefings at their office or a community centre 2–3 days before flight.

What's different about Sindh-region pilgrims

Pakistanis from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, and Sukkur often drive 2–6 hours to KHI. Tips:

  • Driving time from Hyderabad to KHI is 2.5–3 hours on the Karachi–Hyderabad Motorway (M9). Allow 5 hours minimum from arrival at airport to flight departure.
  • JIAP has paid parking; long-stay parking (Domestic side) costs PKR 300/day.
  • Coaches from Sukkur and Larkana to Karachi run overnight (Daewoo, Faisal Movers, Skyways) — match coach arrival to airport with at least 4-hour buffer.
  • Some agents in Hyderabad and Sukkur offer combined transport-to-Karachi-airport + Umrah package — saves logistics headache.

Common Karachi-specific mistakes

  1. Arriving at JIAP without confirming whether your Saudi visa was actually issued. (Some Pakistani agents quote 'visa included' but the file is processed only after deposit — confirm visa stamp 7 days before flight.)
  2. Choosing the absolute cheapest package without checking the hotel name and exact distance from Haram. A 'PKR 200,000 Umrah' is almost certainly a 800m+ hotel.
  3. Bringing ZamZam in personal luggage from Saudi — always use the airline's free 5L allowance at Jeddah/Madinah airport.
  4. Underestimating the Madinah → Makkah bus journey time. It's 5 hours including check-in, meal stop, and Miqat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the cheapest airline for Umrah from Karachi?

Air Sial and FlyJinnah are typically PKR 20,000–35,000 below PIA and Saudia. They serve Jeddah more reliably than Madinah from Karachi. SereneAir's 2-weekly Madinah service is competitively priced when available.

How early should I arrive at Karachi Airport for an Umrah flight?

4 hours minimum during Umrah peak season (Ramadan, July–August school holidays, December). 3 hours minimum off-season. The dedicated Hajj/Umrah terminal (when operational) processes pilgrims faster, but security and immigration queues can still be 60–90 minutes.

Can I fly Karachi → Madinah → Makkah → Karachi as one ticket?

Yes — PIA and Saudia book the standard multi-city Umrah itinerary (Karachi → Madinah, return from Jeddah → Karachi) as a single ticket. Air Sial and FlyJinnah generally require two separate one-way tickets, sometimes resulting in marginally higher overall cost.

Is there a direct flight from Karachi to Makkah?

No. There is no airport in Makkah. All pilgrims arrive at Jeddah (JED, 85 km from Makkah) or Madinah (MED, 420 km from Makkah). Ground transport is then organised by your Pakistani Umrah agent.

Do Karachi Umrah operators handle the visa themselves?

Reputable Karachi operators handle the Saudi MoFA Umrah visa file end-to-end as part of the package. They submit your documents to their Saudi Mu'allim, who submits to MoFA. The visa is electronically stamped on your passport copy. You should never need to visit a Saudi consulate yourself for an Umrah visa via this route.
