UK Student Visa Document Checklist for Pakistani Applicants (2026)

The UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4) is one of the most-applied-for visas by Pakistani students — over 14,000 granted in 2024. The application is well-defined but unforgiving: one missing document or one financial-evidence mistake and the visa is refused. This checklist covers every document required for Pakistani applicants in 2026.

Pre-application requirements

1. Unconditional offer from a UK university or college that holds a Student Sponsor Licence (verify at gov.uk register of licensed sponsors)
2. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) — 14-digit reference issued by your sponsor via UK Home Office system after you accept the offer and pay any required deposit
3. English language requirement met via IELTS Academic, Pearson PTE, TOEFL iBT, or equivalent SELT
4. Funds in place — held in your account for 28 consecutive days before application

Core documents for visa application

1. Passport

• Original Machine-Readable Pakistani Passport
• Valid for the whole duration of the visa + 1 month
• At least one blank page for the visa vignette

2. CAS letter

• Printed PDF copy of the CAS letter from your sponsor
• CAS reference number is what UK Home Office actually uses; the printed letter is supporting evidence

3. Financial evidence

The most common rejection ground. UK requires:

• First-year tuition (varies by course — typically GBP 15,000-35,000 for international students)
• Living costs: GBP 1,483/month for London for 9 months max (= GBP 13,347) OR GBP 1,136/month outside London for 9 months max (= GBP 10,224)
• Funds held for 28 consecutive days in your name (or parent's name with affidavit of support)
• Bank statement no older than 31 days at submission
• Statement must show: account holder name, account number, bank name, daily closing balances showing 28-day hold

Acceptable sources: Pakistani bank statement, regulated student loan letter, parent's bank statement (with affidavit of support), recognised scholarship letter.

4. English language certificate

• IELTS Academic, Pearson PTE, TOEFL iBT, Trinity GESE/ISE, LanguageCert (must be from UKVI-approved SELT centre)
• Score requirements vary by course; minimum typically IELTS 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 for degree-level
• Some Pakistani A-Level grade C+ in English Language may be accepted by sponsors

5. Academic transcripts

• Original transcripts from previous qualifications
• Required even after CAS issuance for verification

6. Polio vaccination certificate

• Mandatory for all Pakistani applicants entering the UK from 2024
• Free at any government EPI centre in Pakistan
• Yellow card carried with passport

7. TB test certificate from IOM

• Pakistani applicants MUST complete TB testing at an IOM (International Organization for Migration) approved centre in Pakistan

1. Financial evidence not held for 28 consecutive days — even one day dipping below the threshold restarts the clock
2. Bank statement older than 31 days at submission
3. Discrepancy between sponsor records and visa application (course name, intake date)
4. Credibility interview failure — UKVI sometimes calls applicants; inability to explain why this course / university / city is a common rejection
5. Forged or altered documents — instant 10-year ban
6. Prior UK visa refusal not declared
7. Missing TB test certificate
8. Polio vaccination card missing

2024 reform: dependants restriction

Since January 2024, UK Student Visa holders can NO LONGER bring dependants (spouse, children) UNLESS pursuing a PhD or government-sponsored research course of 9+ months. This significantly affects taught Master's students with families.

After arrival in the UK

• Pick up Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) within 10 days of arrival
• Register with police if required (rare for student visas)
