How Much Does Hajj from Pakistan Cost in 2027? Real Breakdown

Last updated: 26 June 2026

Hajj is one of the largest single expenses a Pakistani family will undertake. Costs have risen significantly over the past decade due to Saudi infrastructure fees, currency devaluation, and rising hotel rates in Makkah. This guide gives you a realistic 2027 budget — what you'll actually pay, what's included, and what extras to expect.

2027 Hajj cost ranges (estimated)

Why Hajj costs vary so widely

  • Hotel proximity to Haram: A room 100m from Masjid al-Haram costs 4–6x a room 800m away. This single factor accounts for most of the price gap.
  • Mina tent zone: Premium Mina tents in Wadi Muhassir (closest to Jamarat) cost significantly more than basic Mina tents.
  • Aziziya accommodation: Some premium packages include private Aziziya apartments for the pre-Hajj week; basic packages stuff pilgrims into shared dorm-style hotels.
  • Meal plan: Full board adds PKR 50,000–80,000 per pilgrim vs breakfast-only.
  • Group size: Small-group (15–25) Hajj costs more than mass-group (50–100) because of higher per-person overhead.
  • Airline class: Business-class Hajj packages exist for PKR 4,500,000+ per person.

What's typically NOT included (budget for these separately)

  • Polio + meningococcal vaccination: PKR 5,000–8,000 total at private hospitals
  • Personal pocket money: Most pilgrims budget PKR 50,000–100,000 in spending money for souvenirs, dates, ZamZam containers, gifts, taxis between hotels
  • Pre-departure CNIC/passport renewal: PKR 5,000–15,000 if needed
  • Personal medical supplies: PKR 5,000–10,000
  • Inter-city transport to your departure airport: PKR 5,000–20,000 depending on distance
  • Extra ZamZam containers beyond the airline's 5L free allowance — not typically allowed in luggage; better to gift recipients local Saudi ZamZam
  • Telephone/SIM: SAR 70–150 for a Saudi SIM with data

How to pay (Government Scheme)

  1. First installment (~PKR 200,000) due at application in November 2026
  2. Second installment (balance) due in January–February 2027 if selected in lottery
  3. Payment via designated banks (Habib Bank Limited, Allied Bank, Bank Alfalah and others — list published in the MoRA Hajj Policy)

How to pay (Private)

  • Booking deposit typically PKR 300,000–500,000
  • Balance due 60–90 days before departure
  • Bank transfer or pay order to the operator's company account — NEVER pay cash without a formal receipt and never to a personal bank account
  • Always demand a written contract listing exact hotel names, departure date, return date, and what's included

Hidden costs to watch for

  • 'Optional' extras becoming mandatory: Some operators advertise low base prices then charge for ziyarat tours, meal upgrades, or 'priority Tawaf' (which doesn't actually exist) on arrival
  • Currency adjustment clauses: Some contracts let the operator increase the price up to 30 days before departure if SAR/USD rises against PKR
  • Group reassignment fees: If you want to switch from a 50-pilgrim group to a 25-pilgrim group, expect a PKR 100,000+ upgrade fee
  • Cancellation fees: Most operators charge 30–50% if you cancel within 90 days of departure; 100% within 30 days

The financing question

Pakistani Islamic banks (Meezan, BankIslami, Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan, MCB Islamic) offer Hajj savings schemes that let you save monthly toward a future Hajj. Some offer 'Hajj Mubarak' deposit certificates with profit-sharing that targets the projected Hajj cost. These are far better than conventional loans (which raise riba concerns and undermine the Hajj's spiritual purpose).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hajj 2027 going to be more expensive than 2026?

Yes, likely 6–12% higher. Saudi infrastructure fees rise annually, Pakistani Rupee continues to depreciate against SAR, and Saudi hotel rates have been climbing post-2023 Vision 2030 tourism investment. Budget at the upper end of the 2026 range plus 10% as a working estimate.

What's the cheapest realistic Hajj package from Pakistan?

The Government Hajj Scheme at PKR 1,150,000–1,300,000 is the cheapest, but lottery-based. Among private operators, basic packages start around PKR 1,500,000 — but always verify what's actually included (some 'basic' packages have hotels 1km+ from the Haram and meals not included).

Can I pay for Hajj in installments?

Yes. Both the Government Scheme and most private operators accept staged payments. The Government Scheme typically requires one upfront payment at application + balance after lottery. Private operators typically require a booking deposit + balance 60–90 days before departure.

How much spending money should I bring for Hajj?

Most pilgrims comfortably manage with SAR 1,500–3,000 cash (PKR 110,000–220,000). This covers tips, souvenirs, taxis between hotels, snacks, and the occasional restaurant meal. Premium pilgrims who plan to shop more might budget SAR 5,000+.

Are children priced differently for Hajj?

Yes. Children under 2 typically pay 10% of adult fare (no airline seat, share hotel room). Children 2–11 pay 75–85% of adult fare. Children 12+ pay full price. Confirm exact rates with your operator at booking.

Is Hajj insurance mandatory?

Saudi has been incrementally adding pilgrim insurance to the visa fee (currently bundled). Some Pakistani operators include additional travel/medical insurance; others do not. We recommend purchasing additional travel/medical insurance for any pilgrim over 60 or with pre-existing conditions.
